Seven Weeks of Self Discovery
Cultivating Flow is a Mindful Writing workshop series inspired in structure by the seven chakras of the Indian yogic tradition.
By the end of this workshop, you will have created a self-portrait in seven parts and discovered your unique path to your next creative steps whether that’s writing a poem or song, painting a picture, making digital images. You are the author of your creative life!
Sign up if you are eager to dig deep and jumpstart your creativity in 2021 with these generative workshops. By the end of the workshops, you will have a created a wealth of material to write essay, create art, or talk to your therapist about.
What to Expect
- Each week we will focus on one of the energy centers that run from the base of the spine to the crown of the head and represent different issues, identities, and stages in life. Working with our chakras can empower us to discover new and forgotten aspects of ourselves and write about them.
- At the beginning of each workshop, we will discuss one of the chakras and the framework it offers us for self-discovery. We will practice Mindful Writing – a guided meditation followed directly by freewriting. After writing, we will inspire and encourage each other by sharing our words and ideas.
- You will receive a handout with information about that week’s chakra, as well as activities and writing exercises through which to explore in the days between workshops.
- No prior mindfulness or writing experience required. Be sure to have pen and paper ready. We will be writing by hand if possible.
- This course is offered through the Penn Program for Mindfulness. Contact the program at 215-615-2774 or mindfulness@uphs.upenn.edu.

Testimonials
A creativity game changer! This course was not simply inspirational; Susan showed me a truly new and exciting way to approach and engage with my creative process. Though it’s been several months, I’m still reaping the benefits by re-engaging with the excellent class materials.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class!
Amy L., Writer and Engineer
Susan is both a knowledgeable instructor and a thoughtful listener. Through her facilitation, the group quickly felt like a welcoming space- this amplified the value of the class as each participant shared their unique perspective.
I’m a relative beginner as a writer, and the chakras were completely new to me. I found this class to be a fascinating way to explore both through symbolism, meditation and literary references – all in a friendly, comfortable (virtual) setting.
